After several emails I finally met Laya Rahman, designer of Cindy Glass, in her shop in Paris. I've already told you about her brand at Valentine's day when I shown you a black pump with a phosphorescent heart and I was eager to know a little bit more about her and why she decided to design shoes after several exhibitions of her photographs in Paris and Beirut and the directions of two short movies. In fact she attended the Parsons School in NYC years ago and she felt the desire to design objects again. Furthermore she used to create shoes when she was younger with a cobbler in Beirut. All her experiences stimulate her creations in which I found a rock&roll spirit, a lot of humor and sassiness, attractive enough to make me want to try them on. If there is one thing I really like is to spend some times in a boutique trying several pairs of shoes. I love the opening of the boxes with their silky papers and then putting the shoes on, walking in the boutique, looking at them in the mirror. I've never felt that with clothes and as far as I'm concerned I could never buy shoes online. As the women designers wear their creations daily, comfort is the first thing I felt when I put them on. Two millimeters of foam under the insole gave me a smooth sensation even on high heels and I found myself like a Betty Boop ready to walk the streets or dance all night long. Above are all the pairs I tried.
One thing I appreciate with Cindy Glass is that the shoes are made in Beirut by Armenian craftsmen. Maybe that's why the first pair I bought is a pair of red sandals named Beirut from a previous collection that I'm really longing to wear.
And last but not least I wanted to show you this cheeky flat ballerina ("salope" means "bitch"), just written on one foot, for the Lolita inside you.
She will soon open an online shop on her website.
